Cherry Hill Summer Youth Employment Program
Background
The Southern Community Action Center established the Cherry Hill Summer
Youth Employment Program in 2006 to provide summer job opportunities for
local youth.
In 2007, the Southern Community Action Center partnered with the University
of Maryland Cooperative Extension (MCE) – Baltimore City Office and the
Cherry Hill Youth Development Committee (4-H Club) to expand this very
successful program for a second year. The MCE educators and members of the
Cherry Hill 4-H Club have agreed to assist SCAC staff with planning,
coordination and implementation of the program for the summer of 2007 and
will incorporate key aspects of the 4-H program’s positive youth development
goals and objectives into our 2007 summer employment program. Each person
applying to participate in the Cherry Hill Summer Youth Employment Program
will additionally be required to apply for membership in the Cherry Hill 4-H
Club.
This new partnership plans to secure 20 funded youth job positions from the
Baltimore City Mayor’s Office of Employment Development who launched
Youth-Work 2007 in April of this year. For over thirty years, Baltimore City
has provided jobs for several thousand teens and young adults, giving them
opportunities to work in structured environments – such as community camps,
senior centers, schools, libraries, recreational facilities, and with
private sector employers representing high growth industries.
